A comforting Southern stew with a rich blend of flavors, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 1 pound chicken, diced or 1 pound shrimp
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 2 cups okra, sliced (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked white rice, for serving
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion, bell pepper, and celery; cook until tender.
  3. Incorporate your choice of protein; brown them lightly.
  4. Mix in the Cajun seasoning and okra.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
  6. Let it cook until everything is tender and broth thickens slightly.
  7. Serve hot over a scoop of rice and garnish with parsley.

Notes

For the best flavor, allow your gumbo to simmer longer. Avoid overcrowding the pot when browning meat.
